NCSA caught up with rising basketball star Keaton Adams to talk about his high school season and the opportunity to compete at the next level.
NCSA: How do you show a college coach that you are really interested in their program?
Adams: I show a college coach I am interested in their program by responding to anything they send me as quick as possible. If I receive something in the mail, I send it back as soon as I can and I also send an email to the coach expressing my interest.
NCSA: What are you doing to “take charge” of your recruiting process?
Adams: To take charge of the recruiting process I make sure to contact all coaches that take the time to send me anything via mail or email.
NCSA: How do you handle nerves when communicating with college coaches?
Adams: Although I have only contacted coaches via email, I handle my nerves by proofreading my email multiple times; having my parents proofread it, and sending it to NCSA for further proofreading.
NCSA: How do you deal with disappointment in the recruiting process? Can you give an example?
Adams: Although the recruiting process has just begun for me, I was disappointed to see that Harvard has not viewed my profile with NCSA. I plan to send Coach Amaker an email expressing my interest in his program.
NCSA: What makes you a unique athlete that stands out from a crowd?
Adams: Having excellent grades and out-working other players helps me to stand out from the crowd.
NCSA: How is the season going and are you meeting your goals?
Adams: So far the season is going pretty well. My goal was to be the team's leading scorer and rebounder and to be all-conference. So far, I am the team's leading scorer, and second in rebounds.
NCSA: What are your summer plans?
Adams: This summer I plan to develop my game with personal workouts as well as camps. I also plan to visit colleges of interest.
NCSA: Who is your biggest motivator?
Adams: My biggest motivators are my parents. They are at every game to support me, and always let me go to the gym to work on my game.
