Contacting coaches is a great way to be proactive as you go through the recruiting process. I recommend that you reach out to programs you have an interest in, and those you would like to learn more about. It is important to understand the proper way to initiate contact with a college coach.
Most student-athletes prefer to email college coaches rather than pick up the phone. This is a great way to initiate contact, and to get their recruiting profile in front of college coaches. However, all emails should be followed up with a phone call. Calling a college coach can often be intimidating for student-athletes, but once they have passed the initial fear, the phone is a perfect way to touch base with college coaches and build true relationships. Prospects are more likely to get their questions answered over the phone, and they can usually get a legitimate sense of where they stand on a coach’s list.
The phone brings a more personal touch to the recruiting process, and student-athletes who take advantage of this form of communication will see the benefits.
