A 6-foot-5 guard from Huntington High of Huntington, W. Va., O.J. Mayo has the right to talk the talk - the endless list of awards and recognition that he has received speak for themselves. He has earned recognition since his early years: during his seventh grade year in 2002, Mayo was mentioned in Sports Illustrated and on CBS Sportsline.com.
Mayo was selected as Mr. Basketball of Ohio for the second consecutive season. He was named Associated Press Division III Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. He averaged nearly 38 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists per game. an endless list of awards and has the skills to received the nation's top individual award for boys basketball players. He achieved all-state honors in three states and won three state championships.
During the 2006 - 2007 season, Mayo returned to his hometown to help the Hunnington Highlanders to a 25-2 record, a third consecutive state Class AAA title, and recognition as the No. 3 team in the FAB 50 -- the highest-ever national ranking for a Mountain State team.
Mayo's game high, 47-point, was nationally televised. Mayo will attend the University of Southern California in the fall of 2007.
