NCSA caught up with basketball standout Cody Mivshek about his high school career and the opportunity to compete at the college level.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game?
Mivshek: Before a game what really motivates me is my just what my shoes say, "Gma". My grandma was one of my biggest fans and she passed away recently. I also listen to songs, different playlists on my ipod, depending on which one seemed to be good luck a game or two before.
NCSA: What are you looking forward to if and when you get the opportunity to play at the collegiate level?
Mivshek: What I am looking forward to most is simply the experience. Being able to meet new people, better my game, and travel, as well the camaraderie of being on a team, and doing what I love - playing basketball.
NCSA: Why did you get involved in basketball?
Mivshek: I became involved in basketball over time, through many camps and teams, and eventually it took priority over other sports such as baseball and football.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Mivshek: The recruiting process is surely one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever been a part of. It is exciting coming home everyday to maybe find a letter to my name, from colleges I may have dreamed of or never heard of. I get a good amount of letters, a lot because of my grades and some for basketball. I'm in my senior year and still have my options very open, and am just really enjoying the process, and playing the field so to say.
NCSA: How are your team(s) doing so far?
Mivshek: My senior year at Fossil Ridge High is already turning out to be a memorable one. Our team is doing great, we are ranked 7th in the state, our highest ranking ever as a school. We are 8-2 now and playing very well. I've spent four years at this high school, since the beginning when it opened four years ago, and I've been through many hard/embarrassing times in means of starting a basketball program, and finally these last two years, the hard work is paying off and it feels great. We’re looking to make a deep run in state. As for me, I'm having a good year, getting used to having a very core group of guys around me to count on, I just need to know I can depend on them.
This year, as far as goals I just want to go out on a high note. I want to see our team to the state championship, I want to continue to excel in school, and continue to work on my game so it is ready for the next level.
