August 04, 2005

CHICAGO - In the third annual National Collegiate Scouting Association's (NCSA) Collegiate Power Rankings, Dartmouth placed 17th nationally and seventh among NCAA Division I schools. The rankings were based on the most recent US News & World Report ranking, the US Sports Academy Directors' Cup ranking and student-athlete graduation rate.

The study was conducted to determine the top colleges and universities in the country based on high academic and athletic standards. Duke was top among the Division I schools followed by Stanford, Princeton and Harvard. Yale, at No. 8, Cornell, at No. 10, and Columbia, at No. 11, helped the Ivy League claim six of the top 11 sports in Division I.

In the overall rankings covering all three divisions, Williams College placed first followed by Amherst, Duke and Middlebury.
