Summer vacation in the field hockey realm does not consist of just the beach and suntan lotion. Don’t get me wrong, enjoy your break and relax, but also set aside some time to work on improving your field hockey game.
I am a firm believer that the offseason is when you should improve the most. During the season it is harder to consistently lift or do extra sprints or hit more, since you are already committing a couple of hours a day to practice and you still have to manage time for school. The summer gives you time to focus on improving on your weaknesses and preparing for the upcoming season. Maybe last year you felt you could have been a little quicker getting up and down the field. Now is the time to fix that. Run sprints, do agilities, lift, practice your ball control. Do anything that will contribute to making your team a better competitor for next year. I’m sure it will all pay off in the end!
