NCSA caught up with football standout Dakota Getz to talk about his high school career and the opportunity to compete at the college level.
NCSA: How do you show a college coach that you are really interested in their program?
Getz: I do research on their school and football program. From there I write down some questions that I would like to have answered.
NCSA: What are you doing to “take charge” of your recruiting process?
Getz: I filled out all of the questionnaires. I also took time to call coaches and introduce myself to them.
NCSA: What makes you a unique athlete that stands out from a crowd?
Getz: I think my size and speed makes me a unique athlete.
NCSA: How do you handle nerves when communicating with college coaches?
Getz: I try not to think about it very much. I just try to clear my mind and be myself.
NCSA: How do you deal with disappointment in the recruiting process? Can you give an example?
Getz: I really can not give an example. The way I look at it is try not to get your heart set on one school. If you get your heart set and that school does not come through then it;s more disappointing.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game? What’s your pre-game ritual?
Getz: The thing that motivates me the most is my coach’s pre-game talk. He is a great motivator. My pre-game ritual is to drink a Gatorade in the locker room. Then, right before kickoff talk to everyone on the offensive line.
NCSA: Who is your favorite college athlete?
Getz: My favorite college athlete Chase Daniels.
NCSA: Tell us what you've learned working with NCSA so far?
Getz: I have learned that it takes time and effort for everything to come together. But, after you get it done it definitely works out in your best interest.
