For most high school students, spring and summer break are the times when you relax and spend time with your friends. For all those high school football players who have aspirations of playing in college this is a great time to visit some of your top schools of interest and learn about what they have to offer. Making unofficial visits to schools before your senior year can make your decision much easier.
Spring break is a great time to visit a school and see your future coaches in action. You can go see a spring practice and might be able to sit in on a position meeting. This will give you the opportunity to see how the coach interacts with his players and fellow coaches. Most coaches are very friendly when recruiting you, but their practice demeanor might be a different story. Watching a practice will give you the opportunity to evaluate the coach.
Coaches have a lot of free time during the early summer months. Set up an unofficial visit with a coach to get more one-on-one time with him. You will be able to start building a strong relationship and also get a personal tour of the campus and football facilities.
The easiest way to set up a visit is to call the coaching office and let them know that you would like to come see the campus. Suggest that you would like to check out a spring practice and ask for a schedule. Make sure you let them know when you are coming. Also, for the summer let them know when you will be coming so that there will be a coach there to show you around.
Making the best decision on where you will spend your college years means you need to make an educated decision. The best way to do this is to go see as many campuses and visit with as many coaches as possible. Make sure that your plans for this spring break and summer involve helping yourself make the right decision for your future.
