NCSA caught up with football standout Kyle Madden about his high school career and the opportunity to compete at the college level.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game? What's your pre-game ritual(s)?
Madden: I try to challenge myself to improve my performance every game. The energy of the crowd and the excitement of Friday night pumps me up for the games. Before the games I listen to music and think of what I have to do. We watch a lot of films on the teams we play so I try to visualize what my assignments are and how I can beat my opponent. I usually throw with the same QB before warm ups start.
NCSA: What are you looking forward to if and when you get the opportunity to play on a collegiate level?
Madden: The excitement and school spirit at the D1 level would be awesome. I would love to play for a college that I could play early, make a solid contribution to the team and maybe have my family and friends see me on TV.
NCSA: Why did you get involved in the sports you played in?
Madden: I am very competitive and I love the contact in football. It's a team sport but you have to win your own one on ones to help your team mates win. My dad says it's a lot like the real business world.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Madden: How have my interactions with college coaches been so far? It's been great. Many thanks to NCSA for getting my name out there early and guiding me through the process. I sent my Junior highlight DVD's out real early as well as my NCSA game clip link to many colleges. It didn't take long to be invited to spring practices and spring games at many big D1 universities. I've gotten to know many coaches so far during the visits and text messaging back and forth. During the NCAA Evaluation Period, I've had 38 coaches come to my school to visit. I have met and said hello to about 35 of those coaches. Some even filmed us working out. I have also gotten more texts as well as phone calls.
NCSA: What are your goals - athletically, academically and in your community?
Madden: Athletically, if I am fortunate enough to get a D1 offer, I would like to go to a great academic school with the same type of football program and Coaches. I would like to play early and be able to make a solid contribution to the team's success. I also play baseball and have a good number of colleges interested in me too. If I am fortunate enough to have D1 offers for baseball too, I will have to decide which sport I would like to play in college. I'm leaning towards football right now.
