When talking to athletes on the phone I often hear the common phrase "I want to play at the highest possible level!" This month we would like to remind all of our athletes that in order to maximize your recruiting potential you need to train like a division one athlete.
Some general guidelines to keep in mind are:
- You should be lifting weights 4 times a week for at least 1.5 hours. This would include a warm up before and stretching afterward. Spending 45 minutes during a school period will not be adequate if you hope to maximize your potential.
- You should be stretching and working on your core every day. If a football player wants to maximize his potential, all areas of his body must be working efficiently. This includes one very important and often neglected factor: Flexibility. The core is the area that links the upper body strength and lower body strength, and if this area is weak, then the other strength that you have is wasted.
- You should be doing agility drills, and position specific drills at least twice a week. It is not enough to just get stronger and faster; you need be able to transfer your gains onto the field!
- Make sure you are eating the proper diet. Each and everything that you put in your mouth effects your progress as a football player. This may include adding additional protein or creatine to your diet.
If you have any questions about any of these guidelines please contact your recruiting coach so we can help you develop a workout plan. Remember this is your only chance to be a college athlete, make the most of it!
"But I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, his greatest fulfillment of all he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious." ~Vince Lombardi
