NCSA caught up with promising recruit Kevin Morgan about his high school career and the opportunity to compete at the college level.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game? What's your pre-game ritual(s)?
Morgan: In my eyes no game is a "big" game. Each game is just as important as the next. However for motivation against my opponent I see him as competition for the scholarship I'm fighting for. In a way he is trying to hinder my future along with my goals. This of course is enough motivation to play through the whistle and establish myself as a great player.
For pre-game rituals I have many. To me as the center on the team I have a strong bond with my quarterback. Therefore in the locker room after he puts his shoulder pads on I put his jersey over his pads. Other things I do is to put every piece of equipment on with my right side first. For example my socks, gloves, and pant legs.
NCSA: What are you looking forward to if and when you get the opportunity to play on a collegiate level?
Morgan: When I reach the collegiate level I look forward to the self gratification of reaching and achieving a dream.
NCSA: Why did you get involved in the sports you played in? (Is it a family tradition, do you admire an athlete in the sport)?
Morgan: I got involved in football because of a love for the sport. Also the bonds you build, there is no stronger bond between friends than that of football team mates. Each player on my team is my brother and family. This passion for each other translates to a passion for the team onto the field and I love every minute of that.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Morgan: The Air Force Academy has offered me a football scholarship, however I'm waiting until signing day to agree. This will give me options to look over my other offers at the time. At the time I've received contacts from schools such as Lehigh, University of Miami, Colgate, Penn, Princeton and many others.
NCSA: How are your team(s) doing so far? (Club teams, high school teams)? Any challenges this season? How are you excelling personally, how does that compare to previous years?
Morgan: My team is coming off an 8-2 regular season last year and is looking to be perfect this coming year. We were a dominate junior team losing only three starting seniors last season. We will however need to fill the quarterback position. At the time we have done so. The only challenge we have right now is depth. All of our starters for the majority play on both sides of the ball. As long as we stay healthy we will be fine.
NCSA: What are your goals - athletically, academically and in your community - for the rest of the school year? What are also your goals for the summer? Are you looking to improve your speed, skills, acing a course?
Morgan: My goal is to earn the title of Captain for the football team this coming year, while earning my IB diploma.
NCSA: Tell us about what you've learned since being with NCSA. Have you learned about how to talk with coaches? Have you learned some rules on playing at the next level? What's the biggest take-away you have from your experience here?
Morgan: I've learned that recruiting is a full time job. Calling coaches, writing emails takes a lot of time. I never realized the responsibility and dedication required in order to further the recruiting process.
