NCSA caught up with football standout Philip Deboer about his high school career and the opportunity to compete at the college level.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game? What's your pre-game ritual(s)?
Deboer: The hype of a big game gets you going, that’s all it takes, once you know it’s a big stage game you know its time to go.
NCSA: What are you looking forward to if and when you get the opportunity to play on a collegiate level?
Deboer: Just the atmosphere. Playing in front of thousands of fans, now that would be amazing.
NCSA: Why did you get involved in the sports you played in? (Is it a family tradition, do you admire an athlete in the sport)?
Deboer: My brothers and my dad.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Deboer: It’s fun, it’s always a dream just to have a chance to talk and get letters from them because there are people out there that would loose an arm for that.
NCSA: How are your team(s) doing so far? (Club teams, high school teams)? Any challenges this season? How are you excelling personally, how does that compare to previous years?
Deboer: Well our hockey team just won the State Championship and we had an awesome season. Our main priority next year for football is making the state playoffs. We came up one game short last year and this year that will not happen.
