The Ferris State University Athletics Department has been ranked 32nd nationally among NCAA Division II schools in the National Collegiate Scouting Association's (NCSA) 2005 Collegiate Power Rankings. The rankings list the top academic and athletic colleges/universities in the country at the NCAA Division II level.
The Bulldogs received a 194.67 power ranking and were one of six Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member institutions featured in the top 50 at the Division II level. The others included Ashland (21st), Hillsdale (23rd), Findlay (29th), Mercyhurst (30th) and Grand Valley State (35th). Only the rankings of the top 89 schools were included in the Division II list.
The University of California-San Diego topped the Division II list with Stonehill (Mass.), Truman State (Mo.), Drury (Mo.) and Bentley (Mass.) rounding out the top five.
The NCSA's Power Rankings were developed by NCSA founder and CEO Chris Krause in 2002. The NCSA Collegiate Power Rankings are calculated for each school at the NCAA Division I, II and III level by averaging the US News & World Report ranking, the US Sports Academy Director's Cup rank (NACDA) and the student-athlete graduation rate of each school. The Director's Cup ranking evaluates the strengths of NCAA athletic programs, while the US News & World Report ranking recognizes institutions of academic excellence. The student-athlete graduation rates are based on those provided by the NCAA.
The NCSA Collegiate Power Rankings provide data that allows prospective student-athletes and parents to evaluate the particular strengths of universities based on academic and athletic factors, as well as student-athlete graduation rates.
Ferris State recorded its highest finish ever in school history by placing 21st overall with 387.5 total points in the 2004-05 US Sports Academy Directors' Cup Division II final standings. The Bulldogs also placed second in the 2004-05 GLAIC Presidents' Trophy Final Standings with 119.5 points.
