Every one of the top 50 players in the Official World Rankings will line up at Carnoustie next month in an attempt to stop Tiger Woods capturing The Open Championship title a the third successive year. More than 90 of the top 100 will be in the starting field of 156 on July 19.
A total entry of over 2,400 currently includes 102 exempt players and more than 1,600 will take part in Regional Qualifying. Those who successfully negotiate this hurdle will then face Local Final Qualifying before winning a place in The Open.
Regional Qualifying will be played on July 3 at Royal Dublin and on July 4 at Ashridge, Effingham, Enville, Gog Magog, Minchinhampton, Musselburgh, Notts, Old Fold Manor, Pannal, Pleasington, Prestbury, Rochester & Cobham Park, Royal Ashdown Forest, Silloth on Solway and Trentham.
Local Final Qualifying will take place on July 9-10 at Downfield, Monifieth, Montrose and Panmure with 96 players at each course. Only the three highest finishers from each venue will gain places in the Championship.
