This 2007 women’s soccer season saw Notre Dame make it to the Women’s NCAA Semi-finals, losing 3-2 to Florida State, but defeating powerhouses such as Illinois, North Carolina and Duke along the way. Two members of the squad this year had impressive post-season play and combined for tremendous goal production which led the Fighting Irish through their run to the College Cup Final Four. Those two players are Brittany Bock and Michele Weissenhofer, two NCSA student-athletes.
Bock and Weissenhofer come from Naperville, IL, where they both attended Neuqua Valley High School. Bock, a year older than Weissenhofer, verbally committed to Notre Dame as a junior on January 5th, 2004. Weissenhofer followed in Bock’s footsteps, also verbally committing to Notre Dame as a junior in the early spring of 2005. Both enrolled with NCSA early in their high school career.
Both girls have flourished in their college careers; Bock finished her junior year with 16 goals and 4 assists; 15 of those goals coming in her last 16 games. As a freshman Bock earned Second Team All-Big East as well as Soccer Buzz First Team Freshman All-American honors. As a sophomore she earned NSCAA Second Team All-Great Lakes Region and another Second Team All-Big East honor. Bock is also a current member of the U.S. Under-23 National Team.
Weissenhofer has also had an outstanding career thus far, being named Soccer America National Freshman of the Year in 2006, after tallying 18 goals and 17 assists as a rookie. Weissenhofer enjoyed an exceptional post-season this year, scoring one goal vs. Duke in the Elite Eight, two goals vs. North Carolina in the Sweet Sixteen and one goal vs. Illinois in the second round. Weissenhofer also started playing with the US National Team a year ago, joining the U.S. U-21 National Team roster that won the 2007 Nordic Cup.
NCSA wants to congratulate both Brittany and Michele for their success and wish them best of luck for the future!
