NCSA caught up with soccer standout Brielle Slepicoff about her high school career and the opportunity to compete at the college level.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game? What's your pre-game ritual(s)?
Slepicoff: I like to listen to pump up songs. [Songs that have a good beat.]
NCSA: What are you looking forward to if and when you get the opportunity to play on a collegiate level?
Slepicoff: I am looking forward to meeting new people, making new friendships and learning new things. Although I will always miss home and the people here, I would love to experience a new environment.
NCSA: Why did you get involved in soccer?
Slepicoff: I have played soccer for as long as I can remember. I have such a great passion for the sport that I could never imagine myself not playing.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Slepicoff: I have e-mailed numerous coaches so far and have gotten responses. They all want to get to see me play in person and know my schedule for the upcoming tournaments.
NCSA: How are your team(s) doing so far? (Club teams, high school teams)? Any challenges this season? How are you excelling personally, how does that compare to previous years?
Slepicoff: My high school team had a challenging season because we faced a rebuilding year due to eleven seniors graduating. I am looking forward to this upcoming season in hope of a better outcome. As far as club, after winning the GU16 Gold Bracket for Coast Soccer League, we are moving on to the Premier GU17 bracket. I am very excited for this season and the great games we will have the opportunity to play. Personally I am doing very well, and I am training hard to get in the best possible shape for tournaments.
NCSA: What are your goals - athletically, academically and in your community - for the rest of the school year? What are also your goals for the summer? Are you looking to improve your speed, skills, acing a course?
Slepicoff: Athletically, I am looking to better myself in anyway possible. I have plans to attend SC Premier Camp this summer that will take me to 14 schools to play and see the campus. I am hoping for a good perspective on what college soccer will be like. Academically, I am looking at numerous schools, trying to decide what kind of campus would best fit me as an athlete and student. I am researching about the dental degree I would like to receive. I am currently enrolled in a class at the local junior college to see the difference in coursework from high school. For the summer, I am looking forward to many tournaments with my club team and excited for the competition. I am also looking forward to improving my skills.
NCSA: Tell us about what you've learned since being with NCSA.
Slepicoff: Yes, I have learned how to approach coaches, and what to ask them to get the responses I need. I also learned that I want the coaches to get to know me personally.
