NCSA caught up with rising softball star Erin Johnson to talk about her high school career and the opportunity to compete at the next level.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game?
Johnson: I pray and I always listen to my I pod before every game.
NCSA: What are you looking forward to if and when you get the opportunity to play at the collegiate level?
Johnson: I am looking forward to taking my game to the next level and competing to my full potential.
NCSA: Why did you get involved in softball?
Johnson: My family is very athletic and my brothers played a lot of sports when we were younger. I wanted to be like them and I followed in their foot steps.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Johnson: I am getting a lot of letters in the mail and e-mails from different divisions and areas of the country. I have received Division I interest in the state of Iowa and a lot of interest from Division II schools in Iowa and in other states far away.
NCSA: How does your team look for this season?
Johnson: My high school team starts practicing very soon because we play our season during the summer. We lost a very good first baseman this year and it will be hard shoes to fill. I am excited for the season to start and I have set a goal for myself to hit a higher average than past seasons.
NCSA: What are your goals athletically, academically and in your community for the rest of the school year?
Johnson: My goals for this season are to win state and earn first team All-State.
NCSA: Tell us about what you've learned since being with NCSA.
Johnson: I have learned how to talk to coaches and the important questions that need to be asked in order to fully understand what the coach and the players have to offer.
