When choosing the right fit it is important not to limit your options when it comes to the size of the school that you are entertaining because 66.1% of the college & universities have less than 5,000 undergraduate students enrolled. There are only 1,117 Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA softball programs. Once you factor in the area of study you want to pursue and/or the region of the country you are interested this could potentially shorten the list of opportunity.
Here are some statistics on the enrollment size of 2,858 undergraduate colleges & universities based on the website www.schoolguides.com and some examples of schools that offer intercollegiate softball:
- 44.9% of schools, which is approximately 1286 colleges & universities, have admissions of 0-1,000 undergrads. (ex. Hope International University, Dana College, Tennessee Wesleyan University, York (NE) College)
- 21.2% of schools, approximately 607 colleges & universities, have admissions of 1,000-2,500 undergrads. (ex. Muskingum College, Linfield College, Wartburg College, Coe College, Colorado College)
- 12.8% of schools, which is approximately 368 colleges & universities, have admissions of 2,500-5,000 undergrads. (ex. Lock Haven University,
- 9.7% of schools, which is approximately 278 colleges & universities, have admissions of 5,000-10,000 undergrads. (ex. Barry University, West Texas A&M University, Florida Gulf Coast University)
- 4.7% of schools, which is approximately 135 colleges & universities, have admissions of 10,000-15,000 undergrads. (ex. Emory University, University of Notre Dame, Idaho State University)
