NCSA caught up with softball standout Jessica Snyder about her high school career and the opportunity to compete at the college level.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game or tournament?
Snyder: Most of the time I listen to my favorite song at the time, which usually gets me pretty motivated and pumped up. A ritual that I've had for a while is that I warm up throwing and hitting with the same person all season.
NCSA: What are you looking forward to, if and when you get the opportunity to play on a collegiate level?
Snyder: I'm most excited to play with different people that I've never played with before because for the most part I've been playing with the same people all my life.
NCSA: Why did you get involved in the sport of softball?
Snyder: My older cousin played and I thought it was a cool sport, so my uncle taught me how to swing a bat and I loved it.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Snyder: All of the coaches that I've talked to are very nice and seem genuinely interested in knowing more about me as a person.
NCSA: How are your team(s) doing so far? (Club teams, high school teams)? Any challenges this season? How are you excelling personally, how does that compare to previous years?
Snyder: My club team did pretty well this summer, we won a tournament and placed third in another. This season was particularly challenging because I switched my position so I was getting used to it all season. Personally this past season was one of my best season yet, I hit very well and I played well defensively as well and learned a lot about my new position.
NCSA: Tell us about what you've learned since being with NCSA.
Snyder: The most helpful thing I've learned is to stay in contact with the coaches even if you aren't sure if you are interested because that school could end up being the right school for you.
