2009 NCSA Collegiate Power Rankings

Duke University > Duke Places Eighth in 2004 NCSA Power Rankings

August 30, 2004

Blue Devils moved up fro 13th last year

Chicago, IL,--July 21, 2004-In the second annual National Collegiate Scouting Association Power Rankings, Duke University placed eighth, moving into the top 10 from last year's 13th place finish.

The National Collegiate Scouting Association, a scouting service that is designed to help student-athletes identify and assess the colleges they are best suited for based on athletic and academic factors, compiled a list of the top colleges/universities in the country based on academic and athletic standards. NCSA took each school's U.S. Sports Academy Director's Cup rank, US News & World Report Rank and student-athletes graduation rank to calculate the average power rankings score. The power rank places schools like NCAA Division II Truman State University and NCAA Division III Amherst College among the top 25 list of some of the most well known historically elite academic and athletic universities in the nation. Additionally, NCSA compiled separate lists of Power Rankings for Division I, I-AA, II, and III programs and within Division I rankings, Duke placed 2nd.

The Power Rankings provide data that allows prospective student-athletes and parents to evaluate particular strengths of different universities based on academic and athletic factors. The U.S. Sports Academy Director's Cup, (formerly Sears Cup) ranking system provides an evaluation for the strengths of athletic departments of NCAA and NAIA programs, while the US News & World Report highlights instructions with academic excellence.

Harvard leads the overall rankings with Princeton, Williams, Yale, and Dartmouth following close behind. The Blue Devils finished 6th in the U.S. News and World Report rankings, 21st in the U.S. Sports Academy Director's Cup, and 23rd in student-athlete graduation rates.

The National Collegiate Scouting Association, founded in April of 2000 by NCSA President/CEO Chris Krause, has the objective to assist student-athletes in finding the right college fit both academically and athletically.
