A state champion as a freshman, Lauren English has overcome chlorine-induced asthma to become one of the best swimmers in New Jersey history. At this year's Meet of Champions she won her fourth consecutive 100 back title, her first 50 free crown and helped lead two Montville relays to silver medal finishes. English might not realize just how great of an athlete she really is.
English has five Meet of Champions titles. As a sophomore, she set the state record in the 100 back. And, she won the event her junior and senior year, breaking her own personal record. She also set a state record as a senior with the 50 freestyle.
Next year, English will attend the University of Georgia. Her coach, Jack Bauerle, will coach the 2008 US Olympic Swim Team. English's records are only a small reflection of her triumphant victories. The asthma still hasn't stopped her yet and English is still capable of achieving much, much more.
