It turns out biggest isn’t always better. Mary Roop’s college search ultimately came down to deciding between Division I Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York and Division III Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota. Gustavus Adolphus has almost half of the students that Marist does and doesn’t have the “glamorous” Division I title, but it turned out to be the perfect fit for Roop.
From LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Aquinas High School, Roop has many accomplishments on and off the court to boast about. She was named WIAA Division II 2nd Team All-State Singles as a junior and maintained a competitive USTA sectional rank. Mary scored a 28 on her ACT and plans on studying French, Spanish or International Studies at Gustavus Adolphus this fall.
