Ryan Barber
Westerville South High School
Westerville, OH
Ryan Barber is just a freshman, but that hasn't stopped him from developing a big reputation in the world of track and field. In March the 5'10" 165 lb sprinter finished second at the state indoor championships in the 400M with a time of 49.13 seconds, narrowly missing the 22 year old national freshman record. Barber's coach Jim Gaul compares Barber's athletic ability to another former Westerville South sprinter and football player, 1995 NFL No 1 overall pick Ki-Jana Carter. Gaul believes that ultimately Barber will be a better sprinter than Carter was. Barber's outdoor times of 49.0 in the 400 M and 21.7 in the 200M are the fastest that have been run in Central Ohio this year. He hopes to compete for a state title in the outdoor season immediately. He also runs the 100M and is a member of Westerville South's school record setting 800M relay team.
