NCSA caught up with rising volleyball star Aly Chelf to talk about her volleyball career and collegiate plans.
NCSA: What is your background in volleyball? When did you start playing?
Chelf: I began playing club volleyball when I was twelve, although I have been playing volleyball on the beach for many summers before then.
NCSA: What is the best athletic experience you have ever had?
Chelf: My best athletic experience would have to be making varsity at Mira Costa High School. They were National Champions the past two years, so I was thrilled to be a part of a team at that level.
NCSA: What is the best academic experience you have ever had?
Chelf: The best academic experience I have ever had was when I made honor roll and scholar athlete.
NCSA: What type of college are you looking for?
Chelf: I would like to stay in California, but if the right blend of volleyball and academics is offered to me, I would be willing to leave the state.
NCSA: How are you seeking out colleges of interest?
Chelf: I have emailed the coaches of the teams that I am interested in, in order to catch their attention. I have also visited the campus of some of the schools that interest me, along with unofficial visits.
NCSA: What makes you really interested in a volleyball program after a coach contacts you? What types of things are you looking for?
Chelf: If the chemistry is right with the coach and the team, then that school will probably be the right fit for me.
