NCSA caught up with rising volleyball star Kaila Leck to talk about her high school career and the opportunity to compete at the next level.
NCSA: How do you show a college coach that you are really interested in their program?
Leck: I show college coaches that I am really interested in their program by responding quickly to all their contacts and by contacting them by e-mail or by phone regularly.
NCSA: What are you doing to be proactive in the recruiting process?
Leck: I am being pro-active in my recruiting process by making sure my Recruiting Profile is complete and contains all the relevant information that a coach would need to know about me and by contacting coaches by e-mail and by phone.
NCSA: Have you had coaches evaluate you in person yet? Tell us about how that feels.
Leck: Yes I have had coaches evaluate me in person but I didn't know I was being evaluated until after the fact. It made me realize that the recruiting process for me starts right now and that college coaches could be watching at any time without me knowing.
NCSA: How do you handle nerves when communicating with college coaches?
Leck: I'm not nervous.
NCSA: How do you deal with disappointment in the recruiting process?
Leck: I haven't had any disappointments in the recruiting process yet.
NCSA: What make you a unique athlete that stands out from a crowd?
Leck: My work ethic makes me stand out from the crowd.
NCSA: What camps did you attend over the summer?
Leck: I attended the volleyball camp at Santa Clara University this summer.
NCSA: Who is your biggest motivator?
Leck: I am my own biggest motivator.
