Summer is an exciting time for amateur golfers. Golfers from around the country gather at state, regional and national AJGA tournaments. The American Junior Golf Association has over 5,000 members and focuses on the advancement and development of junior players. AJGA tournaments provide competitive play for both male and female golfers. AJGA members “aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf” (http://www.ajga.org/About_AJGA/QuickFacts.asp). There are several positive reasons for young golfers to be involved with the AJGA.
AJGA members possess many advantages for college golf recruiting. AJGA play allows junior golfers to establish a handicap. Providing college coaches with a verified handicap is an important tool in the recruiting process. The American Junior Golf Association also posts all of its tournament results online. This is an important instrument that college coaches use to confirm tournament results and player progress. Additionally, the AGJA supplies both tournament and player information.
The tournament information provides a complete 2008 AJGA schedule as well as listing for their All-Star, Open, and Invitational Tournaments. Each specific listing gives tournament dates, locations, and criteria. Moreover, the AJGA provides a list of other (Non-AJGA) tournaments. Player information includes sections on how to play in the AJGA and a college recruiting mailbag. Both are quality resources for male and female golfers looking to play at the collegiate level. Affiliation with the AGJA and its tournaments proves to be a useful recruiting tool in the world of junior golf.
