Lauren Unser
West Salem High School
West Salem, Wisconsin
Lauren Unser has accomplished something that many youth hockey players aspire to - she has committed to play hockey for the University of Wisconsin – Madison. UW Madison has quickly become a powerhouse on the women’s college hockey scene with several national championships under their belts.
Lauren, a high school senior, hails from West Salem, Wisconsin and playing for her state’s top university has always been a goal. Lauren has kept busy throughout her high school career. She sums her life up well in her personal statement: “In the fall, I run cross-country and in the spring, I run track. Both sports overlap with hockey in the winter which means I am often participating in two sports at one time. This spring, the day before National Camp tryouts, I was voted by my class to be Prom Queen. Although I am a multi-sport athlete, my life is hockey and I want to become a top Division I player and someday make the Olympic Team!”
While not wearing the prom crown or hockey helmet, Lauren has remained focused on her studies. She earned the Scholar Athlete Award and the All-State Academic Award for Cross Country. Lauren also sings in the school choir, is a student-council member and volunteers as a coach for a local youth hockey team.
Lauren is starting out on the right track and we wish her the best of luck as she chases her Olympic dreams.
