NCSA caught up with rising softball star Lauren Weinert about her high school career and the opportunity to compete at the next level.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game?
Weinert: We pray together as a team and I usually listen to my favorite country song.
NCSA: What are you looking forward to if and when you get the opportunity in college?
Weinert: I am looking forward to being able to get great experience at the college level and being able to increase my game to the next level. I am excited to meet new people from all over the country.
NCSA: Why did you get involved in softball?
Weinert: My entire family is big in baseball and softball. I started young and loved every minute of it.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Weinert: I have been receiving many different questionnaires and a few coaches have called. Some of the colleges I have never heard of, but they sounded really interesting.
NCSA: How is your team doing so far?
Weinert: This year my high school team is doing great. We have a good group of seniors who all want to play in college. This season I am really working on getting more power in my swing and so far it has been working great. My batting average has increased dramatically since last year.
NCSA: What are your goals – athletically, academically and in your community – for the rest of the school year?
Weinert: My goal this year is to graduate in the top 10% of my class along with making 1st team all-district and making the play offs for the second year in a row. For this summer, I want to begin to prepare myself for the college level of softball.
NCSA: Tell us about what you've learned since being with NCSA.
Weinert: I have learned that Junior Colleges can still be able to give out scholarships. I learned to talk to coaches easily and to be able to answer their questions correctly. From this entire experience, I learned that if you really have the heart and the determination to compete at the next level, nothing should stop you.
