Our recruitment experience was a long process, but we learned a lot in that time. My son, Sebi, ran track and played football in high school. He originally wanted to pursue a college career in football, however, his junior year he suffered his 2nd concussion and decided that he would focus on track. We contacted NCSA and told them what had happened and they gladly switched Sebi from football recruiting to track. It was a smooth transition and they were very professional.
We had a great relationship with NCSA; they answered all of our questions. The process was long and uncertain but the most important thing we all learned is that you really need to pick a school where you feel you will fit. Everyone wants to go to a D1 school because of the prestige, but after going through NCSA’s recruiting coaching; Sebi matured and really learned how the recruitment process worked. After several conference calls with NCSA he came to realize the importance of academics to go along with continuing his athletic career. Things Sebi started to take note of were: do they have my desired degree? Where are they located and how big is the campus? What can they offer me after I graduate? Of course he felt out coaches, looked into their facilities, and researched their athletic teams (which was what we expected) but we were thrilled to see him look beyond athletics to see if academically he was a good fit. NCSA helped us realize just how many great schools were out there that he had never heard of.
Overall, it was a great experience and very happy with the outcome. Sebi will be running track at the University of the Incarnate Word, which offers everything he wanted and then some. It truly is a perfect fit, thanks you NCSA for passing on the knowledge and for opening his eyes to all that's out there.
