Preparation, organization and having a plan, in our opinion these are the keys to recruiting success. NCSA did a great job in assisting in theses areas. It was not an easy road, but having NCSA on board made Julian feel that there was a team of experts working with us that cared about his success.
We joined up with NCSA during Julian’s first year on varsity, 10th grade. Julian had the skills and was already committed to playing basketball beyond high school, we just needed a guiding hand and proven tools to help him find the right college program. From the first conversation with Hans I was convinced that NCSA could provide a road map and the tools. Shortly after signing up we received “The Game Plan” and the three-year journey began.
The most challenging part of the recruiting process was also the most rewarding, following the game plan. NCSA told us, “Follow the plan and coaches will contact you.” And that’s what happened. Shortly after Julian’s on-line profile and web link was distributed, e-mails and letters started arriving.
Our advice is,
First to the parents:
1. Know your sport and be realistic about your child’s athletic ability, D1 is not for everybody
2. Focus on academics, it helps with scholarships
3. Take the tools NCSA gives you and run with them — make as many direct contacts as possible, after all you are marketing a product
To the athletes:
1. Do the work, in your sport and in the classroom
2. Be open minded, there is a college that will fit you
