Our son Chioke, for what it's worth, was not treated fairly by the coaching staff at his high school during his senior season. My heart hurt for him because I knew he had the talent to play more than he did. As a consequence, we went on a mission to find someone who could help us provide him an opportunity to showcase his skills at the next level. After the season, we called NCSA. We remembered the presentation they gave when Chioke attended a Nike camp. NCSA emailed us and discussed the services available for student-athletes to further their athletic careers, as is it turned out, that call was the stepping stone to a blessing waiting to happen.
We talked over the phone Mr. Bucci and he was so helpful. He sounded more like a parent talking to parents and he truly had Chioke's best interest at heart. The most important thing I remembered him said was, "Recruiters do not know who you are because they do not know that you exist." Once we determined the kind of service that fit our needs, we went to work.
The most challenging part of the process was to pick all of the "best" plays we thought he made on his video. However, NCSA took care of that, their professional editing made him look very good on video.
The best part of the recruiting process was when we were emailed by every one of the colleges the video was sent to! We got about 6 calls from coaches and narrowed it down to a college in Mississippi and one in Minnesota, which we ultimately ended up choosing. Chioke would later say, "I did not know that anyone would be interested in me!" This said it all for us because NCSA stayed the course with us and always kept us informed about the steps we needed to take while we waited patiently for that call.
Our advice to the parent and the student-athlete is when a coach calls, listen to his/her heart, not their words because this will tell you if this coach is really interested in your kid. Also, read the information that NCSA provides weekly because it is informative information.
