Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Madison Beddingfield. I have been playing softball since age 8 and have played almost year round since then because of my love of the sport.
I believe that I can provide a great deal of utility for a prospective college program. I started out in softball as a catcher and only started training as a pitcher my first year of 12U. This was out of necessity due to the fact that our 12U recreational team had no pitchers. Through the early portion of my travel ball years, I spent equal time catching and pitching, sometimes within the same inning.
Starting in seventh grade, I was utilized as a pitcher and played second base on the my high school junior varsity team. At the end of the JV season, I was moved up to the varsity team to work as a relief pitcher and got a significant amount of work coming into games in high pressure situations. I believe that this experience really helped me to develop the mental toughness that is needed to be a successful player early in my high school career.
From the eighth grade on, I have been on the varsity team in high school and played above my age level in travel ball. I have had significant playing time on those teams at pitcher, third base, catcher, and second base. Lately, the bulk of my time has been spent pitching and playing third base, but I feel comfortable playing anywhere on the infield. I haven't had a lot of experience playing in the outfield, but am more than willing to become proficient at those positions as well, if needed.
I feel that I have good leadership skills and a good work ethic and I would like to put those skills to work on a collegiate team.
