I was very proud of myself for making the high school softball team. I had to try out when I was going into 9th grade. At that time, we had 9 seniors on the team. So, I thought my chance of playing for the Varsity team was slim to none. I still played as hard as I could on Junior Varsity. Coach then told me that I would be base running for Varsity and that motivated me to keep pushing myself to get better. I got to go to the state tournament with the team and I got to play in the 6A state finals. Being on the team showed me that even though I only ran, I was still a benefit to the team. Everyone has a special skill that will help them in the game. When I wasn't on the field, I was always cheering on my teammates.
And now I am one of those seniors. I was a starter for Varsity last year for my high school and I am playing with my travel team in the off season from school. I am excited for my senior year of school ball to start in Feb of 2020.
In order to succeed in your sport, you have to have skill, academic education, commitment, and you should be willing to work with others as a team. Being on a team is a privilege and a learning experience. I have had the privilege of it teaching me how to trust others and myself. I believe a team teaches you to encourage others and push them to reach their goals. You should always help others to achieve their goals, as well as your own goals. I believe that all individuals of a team should have short term goals that will help you achieve the teams long term goal.
