My name is Alena Elise Valenzuela and I am a Junior at Desert Ridge High School in Mesa, Arizona. I'm a catcher, left fielder, first baseman and third baseman. I've been playing softball for 4 years, and in that time I have grown to be a successful player. I'm looking for a college that would allow me to be successful as a student and athlete, and would give me the pleasure of participating in the thing I love to do most. Not only would I be dedicated to making the program successful, but I'd also give equal attention to maintaining my academic goals.
I believe I would be a great addition for any school due to my determination and drive. Whether it be in the classroom or on the field, I aim to excel, and never settle for anything less than my best. I am a team player, and look to teammates for support, advice, and a good time. I understand the physical aspects of the game, but more than that I understand the importance of the mental game, and am constantly thinking, " What's next?" and preparing myself for the unexpected. Although I am quiet in the classroom, I'm loud and aggressive come game time. Communication is one of the most important aspects in the game, and I try to lead by example for teammates in order to succeed. I was built for power, and continue to push myself to get stronger in conditioning and weightlifting, plus I work on increasing my speed. As far as academics are concerned, I've always excelled; it just comes easily to me. I push myself to maintain A's, and even challenged myself this year with taking an extra class and no lunch. Although it's brought on challenges, I've become more successful and knowledgeable of time-management and prioritizing. I enjoy volunteering and giving back to my community, and have been an active member in the community through my church as well as neighborhood and high school. I can be lax and easy going, but when it comes time for games and practice, I understand the need for focus and determination, and the switch flips. I believe I am well rounded, and can bring a new passion and perspective to the game and the classroom.
