Personal Statement

                                                            All about me
My name is Lashanti Carroll and I’m girl who loves to play softball. I play because I have a love for the game. I play to have fun, but with a purpose to WIN!!!  I appreciate the journey as well as all the friends, family and exciting new relationships I’ve develop playing the game I love. Some of the most exciting memories come from playing the game. A 5-4-3 play to save the game or a walk off home run to win the game is what I live for.  On the other hand I do, as I preference beforehand, the journey is also something I look forward to.  The challenge to make it through practice when it is 100 plus degrees or when conditioning workouts seems like it will never end.  If you persevere you can do great things.  I consider myself very fortunate to have great teammates they are like my sisters, great coaches, family and friends to support me in this journey.  What truly makes a player good to great is how you handle adversity.  Softball is a great teacher in that as well as life lessons within the game.  When you don’t have to or when no one is looking can you take an extra hour of batting practice. Can you do some form of conditioning or study what makes your favorite softball team so good on your own time?  Can you take constructive criticism and use it to your advantage?  Yes I can, simply because of my love and dedication to the game. My dream as a softball player is go to college and play softball.  I will play as a college player and the type of player a college coach is going to get is a quick learner coachable player who pays close attention to detail and is relentless in the pursuit of competing at the highest level my talent can take me.  I am driven and I have a passion for the game. I see myself as a player with a high motor and very cerebral.  When some players you compete against that are stronger bigger faster you have to have an element within yourself to make thing tip in your favor.  Out working out thinking my opponent, different tactics like thinking outside the box and strategies are my biggest strength. A player can have a size advantage but I control how much effort I put forth and at the end of the day my heart is going to prove to be bigger. One of my best qualities taught to me by softball is sportsmanship.  Winning or losing with class and dignity are essential tools in any endeavor and I like to pride myself on not getting to high or too low on myself,  based on one play or one game.  I also apply the same disciplines to my academics. I strive to achieve the best grades possible and to attain all the knowledge necessary to get accepted to a college. Softball keeps me in good physical heath and it also allows me to release some pinned up aggression at times.   One of my goals is to become a physical therapist or work in the sports industry.  I would love to give back to the youth and provide mentoring and leadership skills to our future athletes.  I’ve been playing since I was 6 years old and throughout the journey there is not one thing I would change.  I can’t tell you how thankful I am of my support group that includes my teammates, my friends, family and coaches.  College is in my future and playing softball in college is going to happen.  I am looking forward to the journey.   When I’m not playing or practicing softball I see myself as anime nerd because I watch and talk about Naruto and Pokémon a lot. I can also be seen as a very nice person who can be kind to others and nice to be around. I can be very silly and goofy at times but mostly I’m just a happy and social teenager who loves to hang out with her friends and family.   My fears, hobbies, interests, family, and things that I love. For my fears, it’s   rollercoasters and needles. Rollercoasters are not my thing in fact they really scare me. I hate the drops the most. I hate the way the drops make my stomach feel.  I don’t like the free fall feeling. My other fears are needles. I don’t like waiting for the nurse to stick me with the needle. I don’t like the way it feels when they pull the needle out. One of my hobbies is cooking. I love to cook for my family and friends. When I was little I would tell everyone that I wanted to cook so that I could give it to the homeless people for free.  I would always see them and it made me feel bad that I had food and they didn’t.
One of my favorite interests is the month of December.  I choose December because I feel like that is when everyone is the happiest.  I say that because December is a month were you can forget about all the bad in your life they say it’s the most wonderful time of the year. It’s a time where family and friends get together and have good times.    I also love the rain. One quote I picked out was ‘’anyone who thinks that sunshine is pure happiness, has never danced in the rain’’ I like this quote because its right when you dance in the rain and run around in it you feel free. I like the way rain feels as it hits me while I run in it. The best feeling the world and makes I forget about all my problems they just wash away.   My family is very important to me as well.   I like seeing my mom and dad happy because when there happy I am happy. Seeing your family happy is the greatest thing you could ask for. I love my mom and dad a lot they have done so much stuff for me and I couldn’t ask for better parent cause there all I need.
The thing I love is superman the reason being is because he helps people and always fights for what he believes in. I choose superman because I also want to help people and to be able to be there for that need me when it comes down to it. Superman give people hope and that’s why I like him.   So this is how people see me in the outside as a nice and caring girl who loves sports, family and friends. When on the inside I am a person who wants to help people and succeed in the world. And I am a person who loves her family very much.
