Savanna Powers '16 Recruiting Profile

I played three years for the Dixie Youth program before I started school at Fort Meade Middle Senior High School. I quickly moved up to the varsity team and have been a starting player since 7th grade. I worked hard to prove I earned my position on the team and that I was mature enough to handle it. Softball is a huge part of my life. It allowed me to mature, gave me the ability to create coalitions, reduce tensions and encourage my teammates for better performance. Over the past nine years, I have played second base and outfield but my primary position—one in which I thrive is shortstop. I've learned to socialize with a variety of people and some of them made me understand sports differently. My coach Toni Rehberg taught me that sport doesn't mean only physical effort; it also means dedication, passion, intelligence, the ability to create strategy and to think quickly. A special moment for me in 2014 school season was being honored with Defensive Most Valuable Player for my team. In the 2015 season, my team placed runner-up in the district playoffs—for the second year in a row. This year, however, we also moved on to the Region 2 semi-finals for the first time in the history of Fort Meade High School! My best accomplishment to date was being selected as team captain, an All-State player named to the 2nd team and receiving All-County Honorable Mention this year. Our coach stated I am doing very well and have matured both as a person and as a player since she first met me. My hope is to continue to make her proud and to be a captain who leads by example, who helps build a unified team and instills spirit and pride in my teammates always, in all ways!
