Personal Statement

I have been playing softball since I was 7 years old, and have always known I wanted to play softball in college. I have been pitching since I was 8 years old and there has never been a time when I have not wanted to have the ball and be in the circle. I work hard to be successful at everything I do, on and off the field, and I don't settle for anything less. I like being part of a team, and knowing that my contributions on and off the field help us succeed. The love I have for softball drives me to be successful and the values it teaches me are something I know will help me succeed during my journey in life. I am looking for a school that will be a good fit for me academically, and where I can use my softball talents to make my new team the best it can be!

  • Softball Factory Evaluation: Raechel is an evolving young RHP with a well-balanced skill set. On the mound, she has a natural build with good pitching form and mechanics. Working on a keeping her arm tight to body with a full arm swing will help to improve velocity and accuracy. Overall, she understands the position and has a confident approach in the circle. At the plate, Raechel, aggressively attacks each pitch with balance while producing hard contact to various fields of play. She shows potential for good power and will benefit from utilizing an explosive lower half to improve power on contact, ultimately allowing her to access the entire field effectively. Shoulders are level b. Inconsistencies (Mechanics) i. Need to get the lower half involved… the more leg drive you have, the more power you will generate when pitching. ii. Keep yourself in line with the target; it keeps all of the momentum going toward the target. iii. Increase arm strength through long toss. c. Pitches i. Fastball 1. 54-56 mph 2. Threw consistent strikes. 3. Keep working on opening those hips. ii. Change up 1. 44-48 mph 2. Good sinking movement. 3. Need to work on strike zone consistency. 4. Work on selling the pitch a bit more. iii. Drop ball 1. 55-56 mph 2. Gradual movement. 3. Consistently hit the strike zone. 4. Take a little bit more off the pitch in terms of mph. You don’t want the drop ball velocity to be more than the fastball. 4. Hitting a. Strengths i. Repeatable mechanics ii. Use the whole field. iii. Make consistent contact with the ball. iv. Setup is square to the plate. v. Athletic setup. vi. Good balance and a nice level swing. vii. Good bat speed. b. Inconsistencies i. Develop a stride with that front foot. ii. Use the lower half more (pivot the back foot and get more rotation in the hips). That will help you generate more power. iii. Swing is too long… keep those hands and arms closer to the body, then extend after contact. This will also increase your bat speed. iv. Develop more strength, which will definitely come over time (training and maturation).
