Personal Statement
My name is Kiri Jiaying Elizabeth Evans, and I am the daughter of Chuck and Marti Evans of Belleville, Illinois. I just completed my Junior year at Belleville Township High School West (4A). I am in the top "5%" of my class, while taking mostly AP/Honors classes.
Freshman Year: 4.75 GPA out of 4.0
Sophomore Year: 4.75 GPA out of 4.0
Junior Year: 5.0 GPA out of 4.0
Cumulative: 4.833 GPA out of 4.0
I am a student first; but I am also a very passionate and dedicated softball player. I would love to play college softball at the highest level that my skill set allows, and I plan to work very hard to find an academic institution that will facilitate reaching both my academic and softball goals.
I am very active in the high school German Club. I was inducted into the German National Honor Society during the spring of 2015, and I hosted a German exchange student (Juliane Beverungen) last fall. I am hosting another German exchange student next fall (Luca Lippegaus) and visiting both students in Germany the following summer. In addition to high school softball, I am also a member of various academic achievement clubs such as Interact Club, and I serve my church as the head acolyte and by assisting with Meals on Wheels deliveries whenever I am not away for softball tournaments.
From an academic perspective, I am focused on Pre-Physician Assistant, and have a straight "A" average. I am officially certified to volunteer at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. Every weekday I will be interacting with the patients, and running errands for the nurses and nursing assistants.
My softball (and catching) journey began when I was five years old. I have progressively moved up in competitive level, and I am now playing for the St. Louis Gamers 18U travel team. My passion for catching continues, and I was the primary catcher for my high school (4A) last spring season. In my softball career, I have played a fair amount at every position on the field besides pitching and 1st base. I have always been someone to count on to fill a hole in any team.
After earning a Varsity Letter as a freshman, and starting in left field with occasional catching opportunities, I earned 2nd Team All-Southwestern Conference (4A) honors in my sophomore year as the starting catcher. While hitting mostly in the third spot I lead my team (1st or 2nd) in PA, BA, OBP, OPS, RS, BB, K (fewest and 0 backwards), SB (zero caught stealing), Quality-At- Bat %, BA/RISP, and Fielding %. When not catching, I played OF with occasional time at 2nd base.
I also earned 1st Team Large School All-Area Utility Player, 2nd Team Academic All-Southwestern Conference (4A), and I was nominated to play in the Illinois/Missouri All Star Game. Switching around from outfield, catcher, and shortstop, I received the Golden Glove award. While hitting in the leadoff spot, I also received the MVP award.
I hate to lose, and I am hard on myself when I do not perform up my expectations, but I am also a loyal, compassionate, and energetic teammate. You will never see me not giving full effort, and cheering and encouraging my teammates. I believe that no matter if you are playing or not, you can still contribute to the team tremendously by being a positive teammate.
I very much look forward to earning the opportunity to play softball at the next level.
