Personal Statement

My name is Christina DiMaria I would describe myself as a well rounded hard working young lady. I decided to go into the medical field when I was a freshman in high school. I have always wanted to help people that were ill. When I was young my older brother needed to have two open heart surgeries. Then my Grabdmother and Grandfather had gotten sick and I knew at this time I wanted to help them any way possible. Then when my mom had gotten sick my junior year that made my decision even more clear. I was very curious on why she got sick how could we help her. At one point I wanted to be a paramedic, then a nurse. I have many great skills that can contribute to both my softball career and medical. I work well with all types of people. I'm not judgmental and I listen well to others. When things get tense both on the field, home, or school I'm able to stay calm and asses the situation and work through it.

I have always played sports since the age of 8. I had tried a variety of different sports from: cross country, volleyball, basketball, and soccer, but but softball has always been my passion. When I started junior high school I started a travel league. It was a lot more time consuming than I thought, but I was dedicated in getting better at what I love to do. During my high school career I wanted to be a three sport athlete. I played volleyball, basketball, and softball. I was the team captain both freshman and sophomore for both volleyball and basketball. My sophomore and junior year I plays softball on the junior varsity team. Durning my junior year I was very busy focusing on my classes so I can receive my Certified Nursing Assistent certificate before I graduate high school. I received the student of the quarter award the third quarter of my junior year.

With plahing on a travel softball team you do more then just play ball. One of the things that I love is that we have helped other people in various activities. As a team we donated out time to the Wings shelter in Elk Grove Village. This home is for women and children who are victims of abuse. We also do a run for Bear Necessities in Rosemont. This charity is for children who are battling cancer. We have volunteered at Feed My Starving Children packaging food for third world countries. Some other events that I like to help out with are the different clinics for softball. I like to help the younger children learn the fundamentals of softball. I'm involved with a youth group at my church, Our Lady of Hope. We have put together a spaghetti dinner and soup kitchen for people in our parish. I took children shopping at Wal-Mart during the Christmas season with the support of the Woodfield Area Children's Organization. I also volunteer time with my family for an organization called AAIM (Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorist) this organization is very dear to my heart. I had lost my cousin to a drunk driver at the age of 19. It was the beginning of he's sophmote year of college. When ever there is an event and my aunt needs out support we are there at family giving out time to support her and her husband. I have learned that when you work together as a team either in a sport or family you ca accomplish much more.

I feel the qualities that I have will help me both in college and when I graduate. I feel it is important to have a positive attitude towards all people to show and treat people with respect.
