Personal Statement
I am a 5’7” right handed pitcher from Charles City, Iowa. I have always had an enormous love for competing, learning, and helping others, whether it be in marching band, concert band, volleyball, basketball, track, softball, or in the classroom. I have been a section leader for the band for 2 years now and on a school leadership team. Coming up in January 2018, I am traveling to Haiti with a mission team focused on medical and building needs. I have also been apart of planning the annual blood drive in the fall and spring at my school. For track, I was apart of the 4x100 Drake relay team, 4x800 relay state qualifier team and alternative for the shuttle hurdle relay state qualifier team. I have played on a few club/travel ball teams for basketball, volleyball, and softball the past few years, but softball has grown to be my true passion. This is my first year being on a big time club team, the Southeast Iowa All-Stars. At Charles City, I have been on the varsity team for two years but a starter pitcher for one. I have selected for first team all-conference, first team all-district, and honorable mention all-state. The reason for the lack of history in softball is due to the fact that I have gone through two back to back ACL reconstruction surgeries. Even though it left me fighting from ground 0 two years in a row, I am grateful because it has taught me so much in regards to the perseverance through adversity, learning about my body and how it works, setting mini goals to get to the big goal of being stronger than before the injury, and pushing myself mentally and physically past what I thought was possible.
Right now I am keeping an open mind on location and division of school. I just want to be able to compete and make an impact in the program. The challenge of going up against batters is the reason why I love pitching so much. Other than softball, academics are very important to me. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA and currently am planning on taking the ACT in December of 2017. From going through two ACL reconstruction surgeries, I was introduced to the environment of physical therapy. The profession immediately caught my attention. Plus, this opens many options for schools because I can get my bachelors degree in a science-related field then get my doctorate in PT.
