I started in athletics at the age of 2. My first sport was gymnastics. At first it was just for fun. After a few years I wanted to compete. I quickly won 2 state titles in all around and placed 3rd at Nationals. Since then I have learned so many lessons through sports.
My dad will tell you his proudest moment of my sports achievements, it wasn't about a win, a play made, or goal achieved. He tells a story about me executing a near perfect beam routine and then halfway through falling off. I then got right back on and finished the way I had started. I earned myself a third place on the beam and a first in all around.
It took me a couple years to understand why that was his proudest sports moment. The lesson I had learned is that we aren't defined by our falls, set backs, or perceived failures. Our character is defined by what we do after those event.
I switched to slapping about a year ago after batting right handed my whole life. I have also been told I was too small and dismissed by coaches because of my size. I have never let a challenge stop me.
My goals are to become the best student, athlete, teammate, and person as I can be.
I know that there are bigger, stronger and faster players than me. I also know that you will struggle to find a smarter player (both on and off the field), more determined, more coach-able, better teammate, or person more willing to take on a new challenge than I am.
I guarantee you, if you are as passionate about making your players goals come true as they are, I am a sure thing!
