Personal Statement
“Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a new game every day, and that's the way baseball is.”
-Bob Feller.
Hi, I am McKinley. I absolutely love softball and I honestly don't know what I would do without it. Softball isn't just a game on the weekends for me anymore. It's a challenge that involves work every day in order to reach my goals personally as a player. That time with a glove and ball in my hand is usually the highlight of my day and no matter whether I had a good or bad practice, I know that I will keep working and being positive because in order to succeed, you must step back before you can leap far. I am dedicated, coachable, and a hard worker. I also lead by example and try to help my teammates and coaches as much as possible.
As you know from the information above, I am a right- handed pitcher and have been blessed to work with many coaches who have made me the player I am today. I continue to make mistakes and will even when I come to college, but I progress with those mistakes which is what I strive for. I try my very best to have the best attitude possible and to respect everyone around me.
Not only do I want to play college softball however. It is important for me not only as a player, but as a student that I go to a college that can offer me both competitive softball and competitive academics. Academics have and will always be a first priority. I currently have a 4.1GPA and have one AP class this year. Last year, I had two AP classes, both of which I passed in order to get college credit. Not only do I play softball and keep a rigorous course schedule, but I also participate in Pep Club, Spanish Club, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), and NHS (National Honors Society). Overall, I believe that I am a person who really strives to be well- rounded and I want that aspect in my college experience.
I want softball to be in my future not because I play it now, but because I love the game and I love the challenge. “When you’ve got something to prove, there’s nothing greater than a challenge.” – Terry Bradshaw
