Personal Statement

My name is Dominique Guidry I've been playing softball since I was four years old and as soon as I stepped on the field I knew I wanted to compete in the game of softball at the college level. I was taught the mental game at a young age, so I visualize and meditate for my sports as well as my academics and my life dreams in general. Mental is 99% of the game, I know this and live this. Comparing myself to other softball players, my height is well below the average player, which I feel makes me unique because I must work harder at improving my mechanics in order to compete with those who are taller. My strong work ethic allows for me to improve in all aspects of my game. I was just so fascinated on how a pitcher controls the game, I was determine to teach myself how to pitch. I began watching YouTube videos and pitched to the brick wall in my back yard. I learned how to become accurate before speed. Then I began working on striding out further and my arm speed, I was 14 years old pitching 59 to 60 mph. I am a utility player but being a pitcher is the best feeling in the world. Being in control, the pressure, and leading my team to victory.  When I did attend Northside High School, I started the 2 years I attended and I also played varsity. I was named 2nd team all district 2 years in a row. The beginning of my junior year I decided to transfer to Ovey Comeaux High School (5A). The reason behind it was because I know if I wanted to compete at the college level and get a better education, and I know transferring to a school with a better athletic program would be the best option. Transferring to Comeaux High School that 1 year I started if I wasn't pitching I was in a different position or I was a designated hitter.  It had been a while since Comeaux High School went to playoffs and I played a big part in us going I ended the season with 2 no hitter games. I would like attend college not only to get an excellent education but to also play college softball and get to experience that high level competition! I believe attitude and effort are two things I can control on the field so it is very important to be positive and go at it 100% no matter if we are winning or losing.Supporting my teammates at all times. I lead by example, not by words. I am dependable and reliable on and off the field. God, My family, Academics,Sports are my focus and in that order. The Big 12 is NO joke! I am aiming for a D1 because I know what I can do and what great asset I can bring to a team, but I always have to be realistic its very hard to get into a D1 college, so a D2 or D3 is just as fine with me as well as a Junior College.
