Personal Statement
I started playing softball when I was five years old. My parents signed me up as early they could because I loved watching baseball on TV with my grandfather. My grandfather came to a few of my games before he became ill. When I was in fourth grade I watched him almost die in front of my eyes. When he passed away a year later, I promised myself to keep his love for the game alive. This promise helped me because softball was always an outlet for me.
Even still, every time I step on the field it’s like all my problems disappear. The only thing I’m concerned about when I’m playing is how I can help my team. In a game where a 30% success rate is considered great, I’ve had to learn how to overcome failure. I’m proud to say that I am very accountable because of the sport I play. Softball has taught me how to plan ahead, appreciate the small victories, and own up to my mistakes. My goal for high school is to graduate with high honors. My goal for college is to play softball as long as I can at a school where I can be successful on and off the field.
