Two summers ago my pitching coach and parents sat down with me for a serious discussion. As I was headed into my freshman year at Scarborough High School I had to decide which travel team I would play for in 2014. They asked me, "What do I want out of softball? What level would I like to play in college?" It did not take me long to answer. I told them that I want to play softball at the highest level my abilities will allow me to play. If I have a chance to play college softball then I will do whatever it takes to make that dream a reality. With that answer we decided to move from the travel team I have played for since I was 9 to the more competitive and serious New England Diamond Gems U16 Elite. And in the fall of 2014 and summer of 2015 I have been playing with the New England Polar Crush U18 Gold. My short term goal was to make the 2013 State Champion Scarborough High School Varsity softball team in 2014. I achieved that goal and played a significant role in our 2014 season on a team that went 20-1 losing 2-1 in the Western Maine Championship. In 2015 I earned my status, among 4 other high quality pitchers, into the role as the #1 pitcher on the team and lead our team to a perfect 16-0 regular season finishing with an ERA of 1.04 allowing only 5 BB with a FPS % of 74.5%. I also batted .417 with 17 RBI. We went all the way to the State Championship game where I pitched a 1 hitter allowing no walks and recording 9 strikeouts. I was also named to the First Team All-Conference. See the media highlights on my NCSA page for more details.
My long term goal is to get better, faster, stronger and gain more movement so I can compete at the highest level when I enter college. I work out 5 days a week at Parisi Strength and Speed Fitness to prepare myself. I feel, and I believe my teammates and coaches would agree, that my mental toughness gives me a huge advantage over my competitors. I always want the ball in the big game and I hardly ever get rattled. In a close game the winning team is often the one with the pitcher that has the stronger mental game.
For more information about me as a pitcher and as a person please contact any of my coaches. As hard as I work on my pitching skills I work even harder to be a good person with and a positive member of my team. My goal is that, when asked, my coaches would say that my integrity and character are my best attributes.
Sincerely,
Lilly Volk
