Personal Statement

I didn't start playing softball until I was nine years old. I had transitioned from playing soccer to playing softball because softball caught my attention. As soon as I put on my glove and picked up a ball, I knew that I had made the right choice to leave soccer behind. As soon as I began to play, I was having a lot of fun, I learned knew things, and I met new people who became my teammates.  When I was in soccer, it was not that fun for me and I felt that I really wasn't excelling. During my first year of softball I felt that I could actually play the game and I was happy to be a part of a team to which I could contribute. I know that softball is my true calling because of where I am today.

On the field I always give 120%. I do the same in the classroom. I am a good candidate for any team because of this. In both the classroom and on the field I try my hardest, help my teammates/peers, and I care. Trying your hardest means that you don't give up and you keep going to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself whether it is in a game or on a test. Even if I may not be having the best day, I will still help my teammates or classmates in any way that I can. Whether this is practicing until we get it right or studying until we have the curriculum drilled into our brains, I will always help them with anything. Lastly, I care. If I did not care about softball, or even my future I would not be trying my best to go to college and play softball while at college. My future is very important to me, and I believe that high school sets you up for college and college sets you up for the rest of your life.

I am very different from other recruits. To start, my academics are stellar. I have taken honors classes since my freshman year and am now in my junior year taking AP classes to challenge myself and to represent myself as a good student. I have always struggled with classes but that has not kept me from challenging myself. To add, I have been on the honor roll since junior high and I plan on staying on it. Along with having straight A's I have joined many clubs at school and they have helped me become a great leader. Being a great leader contributes to having character. Someone with character is one who is outgoing, caring, and most importantly is someone who maintains a strong reputation. You cannot be born with character, you must work towards having character. I believe that I have character mostly because I maintain my reputation. What I mean by this is that I do things that are both helpful and acknowledgeable. Good student conduct and grades also contribute to having a good reputation. When playing a sport, you absolutely have to have a good reputation because you are representing your school, your family, and most importantly yourself. I think that having this definitely makes me stand out from other recruits. I take everything that I learn and contribute to school out on that field with me. Softball is my passion. I love being able to excel in a sport and being able to contribute to the goals that my team sets. I have both academic and athletic goals. My academic goals are to graduate high school and move onto college to earn a degree in criminal justice and from there have a job in that field. My athletic goals are to get better at softball, help lead my team to victories, and to play at the collegiate level. Many recruits or people in general may have goals set, but they don't do anything to achieve those goals. I do.
