Personal Statement
I am MacKenzie Perry a 2020 right-handed pitcher. I’m 5’8” and weigh 190 lbs. I attend Rancho High School in Las Vegas, NV where I am enrolled in a sports medicine magnet program. I’m a dedicated and motivated student who has worked diligently to maintain a 3.92 unweighted and a 4.723 weighted GPA. I have also achieved a 30 on the ACT and have plans to retake the exam this July.
I play for Coach Missy Peterson on the 16U American Athletics-Peterson/Angulo team. Our team is tenacious and we have the drive to compete in any situation. I like to keep my pitching simple and just attack the zone while keeping batters off balance with a change-up. The four pitches I love to throw are screw, curve, rise, and change. My best pitch would be the rise ball. While on the mound I do my best to help my teammates feel empowered and confident in their skills. Staying loose and relaxed is something that is super important to me.
I work out routinely at Maximum Velocity Physical Therapy Center in Las Vegas, where I work with Ron Gallagher for weight training. My current personal record for my back squat is 275 lbs and 240 lbs. for my deadlift. Coach Gallagher has really helped me to develop the muscles that I need to be explosive in my pitch.
I have worked with Coach Jason Iuli out of San Diego, California on my pitching for the past 2+ years. He is able to explain the physics of pitching in such a way that I can really understand what my body is supposed to be doing. He has helped me to develop the ability to trust my mechanics and to not overthink when I’m on the mound.
In my free time, I enjoy reading any genre from romance to sci-fi and thrillers. I also practice a type of energy work called reiki. I’m working on my reiki 2 certification right now. My love is my 9 year old pup, Molly.
