Personal Statement
Hello. My name is Kayla Fitzpatrick and I am from New Hyde Park, New York. I am currently a sophomore at Sacred Heart Academy of Hempstead, New York. I play on Team Xtreme, a travel team out of Long Island, and my school’s varsity team, the Sacred Heart Lady Spartans. During my freshman season at Sacred Heart, I was fortunate enough to be the starting first baseman on the team. On Team Xtreme, my primary position is first base, however I am also a utility player because I am a fast learner and am willing to play at whatever position I am needed.
Softball has always been a huge part of my life, ever since I started t-ball in kindergarten. I play other sports, including soccer and basketball, but I don’t have nearly as much fun playing those sports as I do when I play softball. Some of my most cherished memories include playing softball, especially in the 2012 Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Orgeon with my town team and winning two national tournaments with Team Xtreme during the summer of 2014.
As a player, my physical strengths include my speed and agility on the bases. Mentally, my strengths include the fact that I am coachable, confident, disciplined and competitive. I see myself as a leader on my travel team, always leading team stretches and leading warm-up runs. One thing that is very important to me is being a supportive teammate. Whenever a teammate makes a great play or doesn’t make the play, or when a teammate hits a homerun or strikes out looking, I make sure that I am the first one to compliment the play or encourage them to get the next one.
My love for softball is equally matched with my dedication to my academics. I put 110% into both softball and schoolwork. My academic average is currently 100.3%, including the honors classes that I am in. I will work hard to continue my success on and off the field and look forward to playing softball at the collegiate level.
