Personal Statement
Softball- to me it is more than just a sport, it's my passion. For years now softball has helped me discover myself in a way that nothing else could.
I fell in love with the sport at age 6 when I started playing in the recreational league. As I got older I longed for something bigger and better, so in fourth grade I joined my first travel team. That was when I truly realized that softball was my sport (little did I know back then that it would become so much more than just a sport).
The inspiration to play softball came from my family. Playing softball and baseball could be described as a tradition in my family (dating back to my Great grandfather), a tradition that I am very proud to be a part of. My family has inspired me to be the best athlete and the best person I can be. They have taught me to be the type of person who is accepting, who values hard work, picks others up when they are down and to stay strong through tough times. These views have helped me in life both on and off the field.
Through playing softball I have learned a lot about myself. It has even given me a saying that I live by- W.I.N- what’s important now, which to me truly means to learn from your mistakes but to not dwell upon them and to focus on the present. I have learned that I have a lot of perseverance and drive, which is necessary to achieve my goals. I have also discovered that I work well when I am challenged either by myself or others. My softball experience has not always been easy and I have been faced with many obstacles that I have had to overcome- from having to work hard so I could become a starter after being benched my first year playing travel, to putting down the many challengers that I have been faced with and even having to come back from season ending injuries. Softball has taught me many things that I know will remain with me for the rest of my life. As said in A League of Their Own “It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great”.
I am a very goal oriented person and I have many goals I hope to achieve. In high school my goal is to maintain a high GPA (my current one is a 3.9) and remain a scholar athlete. I hope to one day get into a well-rounded college that will help me excel in Sports Management and Communications (the major I have chosen), build good relationships with my fellow students as well as allow me to play softball at a competitive level which has been a dream of mine since I was young.
