Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Rebecca Vaillancourt and I am a junior at St. Mary Academy - BayView in Riverside, RI. I love softball and to me it’s more than just a game – it’s a lifestyle. I work year round to build upon my skills as a catcher and all-around player. Besides practicing with my softball team, RI Thunder 18U Gold (Lotti), I work with coaches and other players at Planet Fastpitch in Uxbridge, MA and I condition in the winter with my high school’s basketball team.
My passion for softball and my dedication to excelling at my sport has been ingrained in me since I was a young athlete. One of my favorite quotes is by Tim Notke, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” This quote encourages me to become a better player.
As a student-athlete, I am determined to perform to the best of my abilities in both the classroom and on the field. As a student, I have maintained a 4.6/4.0 GPA with Honors level classes. At the moment, I’m undecided on the specific major I want to pursue in college but I am considering criminal justice, criminology, psychology, or law. I know that whatever major I select, softball must be an integral part of my college experience. My goal is to find a college that is a good fit for me academically and athletically.
